Day 1

fly to Toronto go
After weeks of planning, exciting to finally be off to the beautiful Algoma Country Canadian wilderness. First leg is early Air Canada flight from SFO into Toronto – southeast of our final destination. Convenient door-to-door service eases our early morning departure craziness and gets us to the airport on time – not much traffic at 5:30 am. Our scenic airport ride is an unexpected bonus/treat and we immediately become tourists. As we cross the icon Golden Gate Bridge, the sun is rising, and the San Francisco Bay waters shimmer as the brightening day defines the lovely city skyline. Great start.

4 pm arrive Toronto Airport go
Smooth flight to Toronto. Entering Canada from a foreign country (the USA) requires going through customs/passport control after baggage pick up. This goes fairly rapidly, stepping us outside to a convenient waiting area. Clear signage guides us to our hotel shuttle pickup.

5 pm check into Hilton Toronto Airport Hotel & Suites go
Because of our early am start tomorrow we are staying at an airport hotel. Located directly across from Terminal 1 (tomorrow’s starting point), this terrific travelers hotel — efficient, comfortable, casual – has all the amenities we want. Quick check-in and right up to our 5th floor room overlooking the airport runways. This is our second airport hotel experience and we highly recommend this one. Room is soundproof, clean, well-designed for busy travelers. The airplane runway views are entertaining and a bit hypnotic. Toronto downtown is visible on the horizon.

After checking email and world happening news through the free WiFi connection, we use the outdoor pool to clear out the travel junk and re-engergize after 12 hours of travel. A nifty indoor pool entry minimizes time in the cold air. Although there’s a fitness center with cardio equipment and weights, and a real squash court, we pass. Need to eat.

casual dinner Airport Gate Cafe & Grill go
Located several blocks away. Our pleasant 10 minute sunset walk to dinner takes us through patches of wildflowers – white Daisies, Queen Anne’s Lace, Orange Hawkweed. Recommended (walk and cafe).

stay Hilton Toronto Airport Hotel & Suites go
After strolling back in the dark, we stop at the lobby business center to check-in for tomorrow’s flight, print  boarding passes, then early to bed. Big day ahead. Airplane runway activity and twinkling lights still hypnotic.
