Day 7

breakfast Delta Waterfront Hotel go
Last morning, so again in a rush, we go for the Breakfast Buffet. Really a good value, nice dining room, friendly and helpful staff.

We know we shouldn’t just after eating but go for a swim in the very nice indoor hotel pool anyway.

10 am final sightseeing/Sault Ste. Marie Canal National Historic Site go
We walk the boardwalk to reach the Sault Ste. Marie Canal National Historic Site, a safe navigable channel between lakes Huron and Superior. In ’98 a new lock was built inside the historic lock for recreational boaters to enjoy between May and October. We caught sight of a tour boat approaching and watched it enter the lock, lower down 20 feet, and sail out to the river. Here’s a 1 minute video on our experience:

noon Time to go
We grab a couple of momentos before taking the short, easy drive to airport. Sault Ste. Marie Airport tagline: “From here you can get anywhere!” The real choice is how far you want to go. Connect to flight in Toronto, then long flight home. We relax comfortably on flight home while deciding what we enjoyed most. Maybe how it feels to breathe air that just crossed the largest body of fresh water in the world, or the rugged, wild country with its waterfalls and boreal forest, or the beaches, lakes and rivers. The people were nice too. Have to ruminate in our rockers over the choices.
