SMART

SMART

Sonoma–Marin Area Rail Transit (SMART) is a passenger rail service and bicycle-pedestrian pathway in Sonoma and Marin counties. The initial 43 mile rail corridor includes 10 stations, from Sonoma County Airport to Downtown San Rafael.

Future extensions include: Larkspur (late-2019); Windsor; Healdsburg; and Cloverdale. When completed, SMART will be 70 miles of passenger rail service, with a companion bicycle-pedestrian pathway.

Every two-car SMART train holds up to 158 seated passengers, 160 standing passengers, and 24 bicycles. Each car has large comfortable seats with tray tables, overhead storage, and big windows. Onboard amenities include free Wi-Fi, a snack bar, and accessible restrooms.

You can pay to ride SMART using a Clipper® card or SMART’s mobile ticketing app. SMART does not accept cash fare.

All this makes for the perfect way to explore central Sonoma County car-free, on foot, by bicycle.
