We enjoy breakfast at the Candelilla Café; serving contemporary new American cuisine infused with indigenous fruits, vegetables and herbs. Magnificent views from the dining room and patio, friendly service and savory cuisine set the standard at the Candelilla Café.

11 am depart Big Bend Ranch State Park go
Our bus is quite a respite from the heat. Cool air and water to drink as we watch west Texas pass by our windows – those big Texas skies with infinitely diverse cloud formations hanging over the never ending horizon.

1 pm arrive in Alpine go for lunch at Reata go
A real town with shops, churches, little rancherias. We lunch at the Reata (Texas Cowboy Cuisine). Nice day so we opt for the patio behind under the shelter of umbrellas. Our eclectic group orders an eclectic variety of foods. Some well known round the world, other choices a little more exotic. Food’s very good, especially with good Texas beer.

2 pm depart Alpine for Midland go
We circle back to Midland, about a 3 hour drive, to catch a flight to Fort Worth. Our bus, as always, is a comfortable relaxed way to travel. We can walk around, visit with other folks, work at the tables or just watch a movie.

5 pm arrive Midland Airport to depart for Go West Summit in Fort Worth go
This very modern airport is pleasant to travel through. Small or snug, it has everything the traveler needs without having to walk miles or travel on moving walkways. Small is good. Midland, an oasis in the Chihuahuan Desert, is a city with culture, nightlife and a “sky’s the limit” spirit. Perhaps being in the center of the Permian Basin with 25% of US oil reserves under our feet has made us lightheaded.

6:15 pm Fly Midland to Fort Worth Texas
