\nJust a short drive from the hotel.<\/p>\n

9:30 am<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0arrive and enjoy Nevada State Museum
\n<\/a>It\u2019s\u00a0the old Carson City Mint. Nice look at history. Very cool ghost town and mine\u00a0exhibit. In the Mint section there is a neat movie about the history of\u00a0Virginia City, Carson City, and the Mint.\u00a0For those who like the sciences\u00a0there is much\u00a0to see. A wooly mammoth skeleton, ice age horses,\u00a0animals native to the United States, great geology collection and extensive\u00a0explanation of our earth\u2019s changes over time. Native American culture also\u00a0explored. A lot to take in. One visit not enough. Children love this place.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n<\/a>10:45 am<\/span><\/strong> explore\u00a0Nevada State Railroad Museum<\/a> and ride on historic McKeen Motorcar<\/a>
\nWe explore the Railroad Museum where trains are stored and restored. Riding on the historic McKeen Motorcar is a spectacular\u00a0experience. A must-do in season! We also manually switch a railroad car on the turn-table. Lots of railroad fun!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n<\/a>Can\u2019t get enough of this beautiful setting.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

12:30\u00a0pm<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0lunch\u00a0Carson Valley Country Club restaurant<\/a>
\nA Basque Family Style dining experience.\u00a0Factoid:\u00a0Spanish and French Basques\u00a0came to the\u00a0Silver State during the mining boom of the 1800s. Nevada\u2019s open spaces were\u00a0perfect for their sheep herds. They provided meat and wool to the miners and\u00a0stayed in boarding-houses. The group dining rooms of these \u2018homes away from\u00a0home\u2019 were the\u00a0beginning of Basque family style dining. Our\u00a0meal featured lamb chops,\u00a0roast chicken, several salads and the staple cocktail, a Picon Punch! Oso\u00a0Gozoak! Translation: Very Delicious!<\/p>\n

2 pm<\/span><\/strong> drive 0n to visit Historic Genoa<\/a>, Nevada\u2019s oldest settlement
\nLovely small community at crossroads of history. Set at the foot of the\u00a0mountain, early settlers in Genoa were Mormon. Pony Express stop was here. One\u00a0main\u00a0street with a few very old but\u00a0still useable structures. One very special\u00a0is\u00a0Genoa Bar\u00a0and Saloon<\/a>\u00a0Nevada’s Oldest Thirst Parlor!\u00a0It is Nevada\u2019s oldest continuously\u00a0operating bar,\u00a0featuring Old West memorabilia and a pool table. At 2 pm, it is crowded with patrons and tourists. When Raquel Welch visited, she was asked to leave her bra. She agreed\u00a0but insisted that all the other bras be taken down – and they were! This is our\u00a0second\u00a0visit to Genoa. Changes since our past visit: renovation and new\u00a0business,\u00a0loss of a favorite French restaurant.<\/p>\n

5 pm<\/span><\/strong> back to Gold Dust West Hotel\u00a0in Carson City
\nto recuperate a bit<\/p>\n

6 pm<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0dinner Sassafras Eclectic Food Joint<\/a>
\nFunky –\u00a0\u00a0featuring eclectic,\u00a0international dishes, on-tap brews, cocktails & live music. Signature\u00a0sandwiches delivered with a knife stabbing the wich. Did not\u00a0leave\u00a0hungry.<\/p>\n

8 pm<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0walk next door to visit Carson Hot Springs<\/a>
\nFUNKY in spades but love hot springs so we do the thing!\u00a0Crowded main pool with a stream of\u00a0people arriving. Fun\u00a0to dip, talk, stand under the\u00a0waterfall before heading out.<\/p>\n

10 pm<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0try our luck again back at hotel casino
\nJust barely enough energy to push the slot machine buttons.<\/p>\n
