9:30 am<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0visit\u00a0National Automobile Museum<\/a>
\nMuch to see and enjoy. Wish we were here longer to linger with each unique\u00a0historical item. The\u00a0museum is overwhelming in the\u00a0sheer number of vehicles and history – over 200 cars spread over 4 galleries\u00a0progressing from very early days to modern times. Gallery 1: 1890s & 1900s, Gallery\u00a02: 1910s\u00a0to 1930s, Gallery 3: 1930s to 1950s, Gallery 4: 1950 onwards, race cars<\/a>\u00a0+\u00a0Off-road Motorsports Hall of Fame<\/a>. If you\u00a0are a dedicated car buff and read interesting details about each\u00a0vehicle, allow at least 3 hours.\u00a0The layout is excellent, period workshops dotted around add to the overall\u00a0atmosphere. Street scenes set up add nostalgia.\u00a0Two rooms dedicated to space vehicles \u2013 Mars Rover, etc. One nice thing – if your party needs a\u00a0break, entrance fee allows multiple in and outs, so you can pop out for a\u00a0snack or whatever. Extremely\u00a0good value, at $12 adults and $10 seniors. Best special\u00a0exhibit (our opinion): 1908 New York to Paris Automobile Race, featuring Winning\u00a0Car 1907 Thomas Flyer<\/a> Very special! What a story.<\/p>\n

11 am <\/span><\/strong>arrive\u00a0Carson City for ghost walk\/Blue Line tour<\/a>
\n<\/a>Pick up Mary Bennet for ghost walk\/Blue Line tour.\u00a0The Kit Carson Trail is a self-guided walking tour of the west side\u00a0of Carson City. The route is marked – a blue line painted on the sidewalks – hence the more common name of the \u201cBlue Line Tour\u201d. It\u00a0loops in a rough\u00a0figure 8 through the neighborhood bounded by Mountain, Curry, Robinson,\u00a0and King streets passing by many of the historic houses and buildings in\u00a0this Historic District. No official\u00a0starting point to the tour, but\u00a0there are several parking lots along the route, and the trail passes by\u00a0the Nevada State Museum.\u00a0There are over 30 interesting historic homes and 4 churches on the Blue Line\u00a0tour. Do all or do some but don\u2019t miss the strange pentagram in front of the\u00a0Chartz House.<\/p>\n

1 pm<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0lunch Carson City Red’s Old 395 Grill<\/a>
\nFun\u00a0place! What an eclectic site. First the d\u00e9cor rocks! Really cool antiques like horse drawn snow sleds and buggies, a steam powered roller engine, parts from old trains, old portraits, car tags, and much more. The eye has plenty to look at during the whole experience. The food is\u00a0excellent and delivered fast. The waiter very attentive. Spoke at one point to the bartender who seemed to know his beer well. The selection of beers was great. Prices were nice. I would drive quite a while to see it again just because of it’s unique nature. If I were a local this is where I would drink\u00a0and hang.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

3 pm<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0driving tour\u00a0of Carson City<\/a>
\nWe drive through Historic Carson City to view Carson\u2019s past diversity. driving map<\/a>\u00a0Along the way we pass by: 1.Stewart Indian School\u00a02.Nevada State Railroad Museum\u00a03.Nevada State Capitol Building\u00a04.Nevada State Museum (U.S. Mint)\u00a05.J.D. Roberts House\u00a06.Governor\u2019s Mansion.\u00a07.Duane Bliss Mansion\u00a08.Krebs-Peterson House\u00a09.Governor Sadler Home\u00a010.Carson Brewery\u00a011.George W. Ferris Home. We’ll return tomorrow to see\u00a0more.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

4 pm<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0check into Gold Dust West Hotel & Casino<\/a>
\nBig contrast to Atlantis Hotel Resort but a welcome change. Laid-back casino hotel less than a mile from Carson City Freeway, 2 miles from Nevada State Capitol, and 3 miles from Nevada State Railroad Museum.\u00a0Large, warm, relaxed rooms with free Wi-Fi, cable TV and coffeemakers. Our suite has separate lounge with TV, microwave, minifridge and wet bar. Two on-site dining options: informal 24\/7 American diner, and Mexican restaurant. Also has seasonal outdoor pool which we don\u2019t use, 24-hour gym, bowling alley, and casino with slots.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

6 pm <\/span><\/strong>bowling and pizza at Gold Dust West Bowling Center
\n<\/a>Who knew bowling was so popular in Reno area? These\u00a0alleys are right next to the Hotel\/Casino, essentially part of our\u00a0stay. The bowling alley is big (32-lane USBC Bowling Center),\u00a0much larger than\u00a0you\u2019d expect at a casino, and in really good shape. In an\u00a0earlier life we were competition bowlers but we\u2019re a little rusty. After 6 pizza\u00a0and beer fueled games, we start to get the hang of it once again.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

9 pm<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0try our luck in hotel\u00a0casino
\nBlackjack on the slot machine looks interesting. Playing conservatively, after an hour we manage to win $8. Figure we’ll quit winners for the night.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\nAround 10 pm tuck into comfy bed to start a deep sleep. Been quite a day.<\/p>\n
