8:30 am<\/span><\/strong> check out, leave\u00a0for Virginia City
\nEarly\u00a0start as we have a distance to travel. Weather has cleared making for\u00a0beautiful vistas.<\/p>\n

noon<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0arrive and Trolley Tour Virginia City<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/a>
\nWe\u00a0locate the center of town where the tour begins. Costumed re-enactors can be\u00a0seen all over town. This comfortable vintage Trolley Tour of this historic town\u00a0slowly makes it\u2019s way through the 3 main streets as the driver\/tour guide tells\u00a0stories of the place. We pass by\u00a0abandoned mines, old cemeteries in the\u00a0distance, two significant churches, fabulous views looking 1 mile into the\u00a0distance, school, Opera House, Court House, as well as shops,\u00a0watering holes and eateries. Great quick overview of the town and its mining\u00a0history.<\/p>\n

1 pm\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>Ponderosa Mine tour<\/a> +\u00a0explore Virginia City
\nEntering the Ponderosa Bar on C Street, past patrons dressed in Old West attire, the Mine entrance can be seen. A group waits to enter after\u00a0current visitors come out. We put on hard hats, check the mine map and\u00a0begin our\u00a0journey into the\u00a0underground. Our guide warns of low ceilings and slippery conditions, and leads the way through dimly lit, narrow tunnels.\u00a0Every so often we pause as he points out building features of the mine, fills\u00a0our heads with mining lore, and displays tools of the trade. When he shuts\u00a0off the dim light and lights a candle, such as the one miners work by, it is\u00a0very clear that mining was dangerous hard work.<\/p>\n

2 pm<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0behind the scenes visit historic V&T Railroad<\/a>
\nThis time of year V&T trains are closed for the season but work in the\u00a0train yard continues. Off-season is used to prepare, restore, rebuild and\u00a0repair for the running season. Back lot has a variety of trains stored – some currently being restored, other waiting their\u00a0turn. Maintainence\u00a0facility is crammed with tools and parts. There is an engine currently being\u00a0rebuilt. Working from old plans the crew here can make every part needed to keep\u00a0these old trains running. Kudos for their great work. We walk carefully through\u00a0the snowfall to\u00a0reach a once private set of cars, step up and climb inside.\u00a0These private cars were the \u201cprivate Jets\u201d of the day for wealthy folks\u00a0who travelled for pleasure. One car for observing, games, eating. Another for\u00a0sleeping, cooking and personal care. There are curtains, fine inlay on\u00a0the\u00a0woodwork, plus other chic details including a big teddy bear to sleep with!<\/p>\n

3 pm<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0check-in Silver Queen Hotel<\/a><\/span><\/strong>
\nGreat location \u2013 right in the middle of town and\u00a0all the action. Bar downstairs, hotel on 2nd\u00a0and 3rd\u00a0floors. Vintage furniture and d\u00e9cor,\u00a0small but cozy room.<\/p>\n

3:30 pm<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0more touring + catch Comstock\u00a0Cowboys<\/a> at Bucket of Blood Saloon<\/a>
\nWe stroll through\u00a0town, looking at wooden buildings, peeking in shops, observing a miner and his donkey, soldiers, gunslingers – all\u00a0re-enactors. Spot tongue-in-cheek sandwich board \u2013 \u201csoup of the day, WHISKEY\u201d-\u00a0outside a local caf\u00e9. Stop at\u00a0Bucket of Blood to hear reknowned Comstock\u00a0Cowboys. Their music \u2013 blending new and old, tells of life, death, horses\u00a0and cowboys – the way things were and the way things should be a – delivered\u00a0from the heart. 6 pm<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0dinner\u00a0The Cider Factory<\/a>
\nNestled within Edith\u00a0Palmer’s Country Inn, perfect for quiet meal,\u00a0drinks and conversation away from C Street hustle and bustle. Cozy, elegant dining room (complete with fireplace and rustic\u00a0charm). Our\u00a0Chicken Marsala is a large portion, great to\u00a0share. Lunch on the outdoor patio weather permits.<\/p>\n

7:30 pm<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0Bats in the Belfry Tour<\/a>
\nMeet with others for Guided Ghost Tours of\u00a0Virginia City, which is pregnant with potential as so much happened here. Many\u00a0ghosts inhabit the town\u2026we are told by our Ghost Guide. In\u00a0the darkness,\u00a0we walk the streets together, stopping where notorious events occurred \u2013 and ghosts hung out. EMF meters are given to 5 of our group. The meters light up (red)\u00a0when a ghost is near AND willing to participate with\u00a0us. The spirits have\u00a0favorites so not all devices respond simultaneously. To\u00a0verify spirits are\u00a0nearby, our guide asks them to flash\u00a0signal on the meters –\u00a02 x, slow or fast flutter, etc. Indoors we investigate haunted\u00a0stairwells, hallways, and a mirror which in photographs reveals a\u00a0ghostly image reflected. Believe\u00a0it or not, \u2019tis fun.<\/p>\n

9 pm<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0and finally we see Elvis in\u00a0The Delta Saloon<\/a>
\nActually 2 Elvi! Married today – in the wedding chapel back of\u00a0the Delta Saloon \u2013 a couple is now celebrating. We are invited to enjoy\u00a0the entertainment \u2013 a great female singer and\u00a0two Elvi. Under the Silver\u00a0Queen\u2019s portrait a performance venue is set up and people dance to\u00a0the music. Both Elvi\u2019 are good imitators, but the male is our favorite.\u00a0Certainly a unique\u00a0wedding celebration.<\/p>\n

\n<\/a><\/span><\/strong>One of the oldest hotels in the city, the Silver Queen has authentic deep\u00a0character. Third floor is a haunted area but we sleep well on the\u00a0second floor. Boo!<\/p>\n
