\nJust across street from\u00a0Silver Queen Hotel.\u00a0Convenient\u00a0coffee shop serves several quiches, bagels\u00a0& fixings, juices and great coffee. The day is\u00a0clear\u00a0so view of the valley\u00a0from\u00a0the\u00a0back window is breathtaking.<\/p>\n

9:30 am<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0checkout + tour\u00a0Virginia City Cemetery<\/a>\u00a0(aka The Silver Terrace Cemeteries)
\nBack to the hotel, check out, then off for a bit of cemetery\/history.\u00a0Breezy and\u00a0cold as we walk through a series of open terraces on this steep,\u00a0snowy windswept hillside cemetery. All of Virginia City, off in the distance,\u00a0can be\u00a0seen from here.\u00a0Some history:\u00a0As boomtown Virginia City became more permanent, a cemetery was needed.\u00a0Beginning in 1860s, many fraternal, civic and religious groups\u00a0buried\u00a0their own here. Because of its historical significance, ongoing\u00a0restoration is under way funded by a National\u00a0Park Service grant to \u201cSave America\u2019s\u00a0Treasures\u201d.\u00a0Typical\u00a0of Victorian Period, cemetery plots are fenced or\u00a0bordered. Burial places reflect breadth of styles\u00a0and designs\u00a0popular during their long history. Grave markers range from wood to metal to cut stone.\u00a0Few adults\u00a0buried here were born in Nevada. The\u00a0birthplaces inscribed\u00a0provide a glimpse of the\u00a0scope of immigration and makeup of the settlement supporting the Comstock\u00a0mining industry. \u201cVirginia City\u2019s\u00a0Adventurous Souls Rest in Peace, but Their\u00a0Stories Live Forever.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

10:30 am<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0depart for Reno<\/a>
\nLovely scenic downhill ride displays the valley vista as we head\u00a0for old fabled downtown Reno. Sure enough, we arrive and drive under\u00a0the iconic\u00a0“The Biggest Little City in the World”\u00a0Reno\u00a0Arch.<\/p>\n

11 am<\/span><\/strong> visit + lunch\u00a0Nevada Museum of Art
\n<\/a>Time to get our art on! Very special. Museum is only American\u00a0Alliance of Museums accredited art museum in Nevada. Founded 1931, it is oldest\u00a0established cultural center in the state; in 2001 underwent $22 million move\u00a0and renovation. Standing at southern end of Truckee Riverwalk, it is fantastic example of modern\u00a0architecture – inspired by landscape\u00a0and geological formations of Black Rock Desert – its torqued exterior\u00a0wall,\u00a0suspended atrium staircase, and stunning views of Reno skyline and Sierra Nevada from the top floor!\u00a0Interior just as fascinating with\u00a04 thematic permanent collections, temporary exhibits, 2\u00a0outdoor sculpture\u00a0gardens, Center for Art + Environment\u00a0\u00a0(research center studies creative interactions between people and\u00a0their environments), vista viewing deck and caf\u00e9.\u00a0A museum trip is a refreshing\u00a0break from casino action. Small in size – 60,000 square feet across 4\u00a0levels, art layout and quality makes stop here worthwhile. Trained\u00a0docent tours Thursdays 6 pm; Saturdays and Sundays 1 pm.\u00a0We lunch in charming chez louie<\/a> in-house cafe, which is fun, modern, and features a menu\u00a0with seasonal ingredients. Very good food and service.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

2 pm<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0driving tour downtown\u00a0Reno<\/a>
\nWe car sightsee, gawking at the old time casino\/hotels, old buildings, sprawling University of Nevada Reno campus, and popular Riverwalk District, alongside the Truckee River which runs through town.<\/p>\n

3 pm<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0check in and sample\u00a0Atlantis Casino Resort Spa<\/a>\u00a0offerings
\nThis big, upscale hotel casino has it all. Upscale, mountain\u00a0views, spa, indoor and outdoor pools, hot tub, exercise room, 11\u00a0dining options, very lively casino.\u00a0There are Classic rooms (some with\u00a0mountain views), Club rooms and suites, access to butler service and lounge\u00a0with complimentary breakfast and snacks. Resort fee includes use of indoor\u00a0and outdoor pools, hot tub and exercise room. Pools from our window\u00a0look very inviting so we head down to\u00a0refresh\/rejuvenate. Good decision!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\nTough to choose from all the dining options but this is a good choice. Huge all you can eat buffet with anything you could want. We probably overeat, but more exercise is ahead. We’re going bowling.<\/p>\n

8 pm<\/b><\/span>\u00a0bowling\u00a0National Bowling Stadium<\/a>
\nBowling kind of a big deal in Reno. Most cities have bowling centers, Reno has a stadium. That\u2019s right \u2013 a\u00a0stadium. Only facility of its kind in the\u00a0world, the National Bowling\u00a0Stadium (referred to as \u201cTaj Mahal of Tenpins\u201d by LA\u00a0Times) is\u00a0dedicated to the classic sport of bowling. Elegantly\u00a0designed with tournament bowler in mind – bowlers and visitors enter on Center Street, greeted\u00a0by impressive 4\u00a0story lobby. Inside bronze\u00a0sculpture depicts a family\u00a0on way to bowling – a favorite picture for visitor selfies. Two glass\u00a0elevators and escalator provide easy access to 4th\u00a0floor Tournament\u00a0Level. 78 championship lanes beckon competitors to try their luck. Stadium\u00a0features: Lane 81 Pro Shop – latest and most\u00a0sophisticated bowling equipment\u00a0for purchase; Computer Aided Tracking System Lane that evaluates a bowlers\u00a0game and recommends improvements; Stadium Club, wood and copper decorated\u00a0turn-of-the-century room with full service bar, large screen TV, pool table\u00a0and spectacular view of downtown\u00a0corridor.
